Know the Truth and Speak the Truth

spring May 09, 2022

Have you noticed that sermons these days rarely talk about hell or sin?

Do you think there is a correlation between the lack of this content in church and the increase of immorality in our world?

The more research I do on revivals in America, the more I am convinced that without a healthy fear of God, there is no reason for a person to quit sinning. It is as if we have been given a free pass to do what we want without any punishment. But this is not true...

How do we know the truth? The answers are in the Bible.

We cannot discern right from wrong based on what we are taught in school, what is legal or not, or what is even acceptable in our own home. We must read the Bible to know the absolute truth.

In our world today, many believe the truth is relative. What is right for me, may not be right for you and vice versa. However, that is not accurate. The truth is the truth, right is right, wrong is wrong. There is no such things as little white lies, and there is no reason to justify sinning. A sin is a sin, plain and simple.

Only absolute truth is found in scripture. In our ministry, His Kingdom Matters, we cover the truth by digging deep into scripture. Viewing the Seven Sins God Hates (Proverbs 6:16-19) and the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) is a great place to start. Understand that many of these sins include an aspect of pride. In fact, Pope Gregory listed the Seven Deadly Sins and placed pride at the top of the list.

Seven Sins God Hates

Seven Deadly Sins

•       Haughty Eyes

•       Lying Tongue

•       Shedding Innocent Blood

•       Devising Wicked Plans

•       Running to Evil

•       False Witness

•       Sowing Discord

•       Lust

•       Gluttony

•       Greed

•       Sloth

•       Wrath

•       Envy

•       Pride

James 2:10 says that if we commit one sin, we are guilty of them all. It is impossible to not sin. Romans 3:23 acknowledges that we have “all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

The Ten Commandments

•       Thou shalt not have other gods

•       Thou shalt not make any graven image

•       Thou shalt not take the Lord’s name in vain

•       Thou shalt keep the Sabbath holy

•       Thou shalt honor thy father and mother

•       Thou shalt not kill

•       Thou shalt not commit adultery

•       Thou shalt not steal

•       Thou shalt not bear false witness

•       Thou shalt not covet

Without Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we will go to hell for all eternity. We need Jesus, and with him, we can spend eternity in Heaven. Where do you plan to be after your life on Earth has ended? Heaven or hell? Today, I encourage each one of us to take time to pray, read our Bibles, and welcome God into our hearts in a renewed, intentional way.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for today, a day I have not been promised, a day I should not take for granted. Lord, I know that I am a sinner and I want to do better. I know I cannot do this on my own and I know I need you now more than ever. God, please enter into my body, heart, mind, and soul. Take away my sinful desires, and protect me from temptations.

God, reveal to me my sins. I am sorry. Please help me to do better. I want to do better. I know I will never be perfect until I go to heaven, but I will try to do better while I am on earth.

Thank you Jesus for dying for me. Thank you for paying the penalty for my sins. I am humbled that you came to earth and took the punishment upon yourself as the perfect sacrifice so we can have a way to go to heaven. I believe you are my Lord and my Salvation. I know I cannot do anything on my own to get to heaven. I trust you, Jesus. I believe in you, Jesus. I have faith and hope for a better future with you. Lord, I want to be more obedient and more submissive to live a life that will honor and please you. Please grant me divine wisdom, guidance, and direction for the next steps.

In Jesus’ name, we pray,

Amen
