Jesus came into this world as a baby. He spent time in Mary’s womb and was born just like any other human life. His life matters and so do the lives of every other human being, regardless of age.
This is not a topic for debate; however, many people have been convinced that a human life begins with the heartbeat or begins when they exit the mother’s womb. This confusion, this distraction, the deflection, and misdirection is the work of Satan. The fact of the matter is that a human life is sacred. We have a responsibility to protect human life at all times.
The female womb is special and was created for a reason. When a man and a woman have sexual intercourse, the womb can become the home to one or to multiple children. God told Jeremiah that He knew him before he formed him in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5). God told Rebekah that she had two nations in her womb (Genesis 25:23). The fact of the matter is that a human life is sacred at any stage of their being. Prior to conception, God knows. During pregnancy, God knows. After childbirth, God knows. During our life on earth, God knows. And after death, God knows. All of these times in the life of a human is special and worthy of protection.
National Sanctity of Human Life Day is January 22nd. The topic of abortion has been one talked about often the past few years, especially as Roe vs. Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022. That decision changed the law saying that abortion is no longer a federal right in the United States. This led to a snowball effect where each state has made decisions about abortion.
Nine states quickly reported their abortion bans after the federal law was overturned. As of December 2022 there were 11 states that had banned abortions including Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas (Center for Reproductive Rights).
According to the Guttmacher Institute, the topic of abortion includes decisions about who can perform the procedure, if providers have an option to refuse to participate, if counseling is required, if a waiting period is required, if parental consent is required for minors, if second opinions are required, if public funding is available, if insurance coverage is available, and how old the maximum age of the baby can be at the time of the termination. There is no way around this topic. Abortion is murder. It is the opposite of protecting human life. Instead, it is the termination of life by a vile, painful, and evil procedure.
In 2019, Abby Johnson’s movie titled, Unplanned hit the theaters. Abby was once a pro-choice advocate and thought she was doing the right thing by protesting for women’s rights and becoming a director at Planned Parenthood. She was involved in more than 22,000 abortions. However, when she had to watch the abortion being performed, it changed her mind. She could see how the baby (also referred to as a fetus) squirmed to avoid the instrument. The baby could feel. The baby experienced pain as he or she was being murdered at the abortion clinic. Although the baby was still inside the womb of the mother, the baby was, in fact, a human life who was being hurt, terminated, killed, murdered. This experience radically shifted Abby’s mindset to believe only in pro-life and not in pro-choice.
In November 2022, the abortion debate landed on the Kentucky ballot as Amendment 2. The wording of the amendment itself was challenging. It read,
Are you in favor of amending the Constitution of Kentucky by creating a new Section of the Constitution to be numbered Section 26A to state as follows: To protect human life, nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion?
The campaigns that preceded this vote were just as confusing as one showed a priest urging people to vote NO, and other commercials urged people to vote YES to prevent tax dollars from funding abortions. In the end, the votes were tallied as 52.3% No and 47.7% Yes. Meaning, the future of abortion in Kentucky still has a chance to become a legal right. The wording of Kentucky’s Amendment 2 and the commercials were all confusing and should not be allowed. I personally believe that many voted NO who were really pro-life; whereas, a NO vote indicated pro-choice.
In Colorado, the abortion law was on the November 2020 ballot. The ballot reading was:
Shall there be a change to the Colorado Revised Statutes concerning prohibiting an abortion when the probable gestational age of the fetus is at least twenty-two weeks, and, in connection therewith, making it a misdemeanor punishable by a fine to perform or attempt to perform a prohibited abortion, except when the abortion is immediately required to save the life of the pregnant woman when her life is physically threatened, but not solely by a psychological or emotional condition; defining terms related to the measure including “probable gestational age” and “abortion,” and excepting from the definition of “abortion” medical procedures relating to miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy; specifying that a woman on whom an abortion is performed may not be charged with a crime in relation to a prohibited abortion; and requiring the Colorado medical board to suspend for at least three years the license of a licensee whom the board finds performed or attempted to perform a prohibited abortion?
A YES indicated support for prohibiting abortions after a baby is 22-weeks gestational age. In other words, a YES vote was pro-life and a NO vote was pro-choice. The results were 41.01% Yes and 58.99% No. The result was that the majority of Colorado residents voted in favor of murdering a child who was 22-weeks gestational age. At the 22nd week or 5th month of pregnancy the baby can clinch with their hand as their grip is quite strong, they can hear your heartbeat or voice as their inner ear is fully developed, and they can see as their retina is fully developed. I remember being 5-months pregnant and feeling my baby move in my stomach when I was at church listening to music or at work typing on a keyboard. A baby in the womb is very much alive. An abortion at 22-weeks is murder.
This week, I challenge each reader to consider their view on this topic. It was interesting to me to hear concerns about the abortion laws. Some wanted to make sure the woman had a right to choose abortion if she had been raped or had a child out of incest. My question is, why does that matter? Does the child have to pay the penalty for the sins of the mother and/or father? Why would an innocent life have to die a tragic death because their mother and/or father does not want them? Instead, please consider to choose life. Adoption is a much better option than abortion. If you simply do not want to have a baby, please don’t have sex. If you are already pregnant and you don’t want to be a mother, please give the baby to a loving family who will take care of them and protect them. The option is simple. A baby is a human life and deserves to be protected. We all have a responsibility to protect the life of humans – all humans at any age.
