Are you finding it hard to stay focused, especially when you are trying to stay on the straight and narrow path to follow Jesus? It is not abnormal for Christ followers to find themselves distracted with the things of this world when they are trying to do good work for God.
Just think about it. When you pray, how often does the phone ring or someone knock on your door? When you are reading the Bible, doesn't it seem like your family is guaranteed to interrupt with questions or something that needs you to tend to right then?
When I started His Kingdom Matters, it was an intentional time of praying and listening for wisdom, guidance, and direction from God. I spent countless hours each day developing content for the ministry and networking with others to learn more about the work I was doing. During that time, it was not uncommon for my computer to crash, the internet to go out, my bank account to run low, or something to happen that would take my focus off of the work I knew God called me to do.
Satan is crafty like that. When we realize that those distractions are by design to interrupt Christians from staying on mission, we can redirect and refocus more quickly by praying and taking control of the situation. It times like that, say this out loud:
“In Jesus’ name, I command Satan to go away and stay away from me today, tomorrow, and forever!”
In fact, I pray often that Jesus commands Satan to go away and stay away from my family and from me. I call out my family members by name while I say this and command evil to stay away from them. I also pray for God to cover my family and me with the Full Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20) and protect us from sin, temptation, and distraction.
Scripture provides instruction to submit ourselves to God and resist evil (James 4:7). We are told that we have “authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19). We are not to give Satan a foothold in our life (Ephesians 4:27). Instead, we are empowered to command Satan to go away (Matthew 4:10, Psalm 44:5).
I want to invite you to pray with me today.
Heavenly Father,
Father, I praise you for all that you are. I praise you for being the supreme God of all things. You are the one and only true God with authority, power, and ability to do all things. I praise you for being the one and only true God that can rescue me and save me from distractions. Lord, thank you for loving us. Thank you for giving us a new day. I pray that the things that distract me will fall away and that I will have focus to keep my eyes on you and stay on the straight and narrow path today.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
